Superlace: What is it all about?
You keep hearing us mention it, or have likely seen the word on our website or social media posts, but what exactly is the Superlace? Why is it so special to get it's own name?
Superlace Pattern
After studying the problem of constantly loosening & broken spokes, Woody realized that it would be possible to strengthen the structure of the wheel by altering the lace pattern so that each spoke is routed as close as possible to a 90 degree angle from the hub up to the rim. Dubbed Superlacing, this process allows for the most direct transfer of energy through the spoke to the hub and rim, and equalizes the stress throughout the whole wheel, rather than being localized on the spot that you hit that pot hole.
Since the Superlacing method requires drilling the rim holes to point in a new direction, Woody decided to add to the strength factor by drilling and countersinking the rim to allow for oversized spokes and nipples. The Superlaced net result is a stronger, more durable wheel that will take a beating off-road and keep on rolling!
